Three Things Thursday ~ In With The New

Here's one of my new favorite blog hops today:
Three Things Thursday!

Since I already have a blog (and three blogs preceding this one) what haven't I already shared?

Once Upon a Time There Was a Princess Who Liked Trying New Things...

1.) Downtown Disney
I grew up knowing that Pleasure Island existed and that we weren't going to go there for some reason. I guess I never really investigated the transformation to Downtown Disney until I was planning a recent girls only trip to the World.

It has changed since the Pleasure Island days.
A lot.
We loved shopping, browsing and meandering our way through TrenD, Disney's Days of Christmas, Lego Imagination Center and (of course) World of Disney. Dinner at Wolfgang Puck Express was fast and excellent. (Far, far better fare than we would've enjoyed at our resort food court, IMO.) The whole experience made for a perfect afternoon of dipping our toes in the water at Disney. (Not literally, of course.) I really wonder why it took me so many trips to venture to Downtown Disney.
Perhaps a misunderstanding cause by the previous moniker?

2.) Festival of Fantasy Parade
I am going to confess something here trusting you won't make me turn in my mouse ears.
I never much liked parades.
Are you still reading?
Good.
I enjoy watching each time there is a new one and always try to catch the Main Street Electrical parade, but none of the daytime parades really wowed me. At least not enough to stake out a spot early and miss the time I could otherwise be riding rides.
Festival of Fantasy changed everything.

Yes, Maleficient could very well eat you. I think this is the first time she's been built to scale.
The floats are bigger (much bigger); the colors are brighter; the characters invite you into the amazingness of their very own fantasy world on float after amazingly detailed float. The costumes alone make this a parade worthy of a FastPass+ set aside just for premium viewing.

3.) Spice Road Table
I love all kinds of Mediterranean foods, so I really looked forward to trying Spice Road table on our last trip. Since they don't accept advanced dining reservations (ADRs), I worried we'd miss it due to a line. We could always snack our way around the World Showcase if we couldn't get a table at 6:30.
No such problem.

Hummus and Olives, served with Cornichons and Za’atar Flatbread.
We sat right on the water's edge and enjoyed a variety of small plates.
Seriously yummy food, y'all.
If you time it right, this provides an excellent view of Illuminations.

Did you try anything new (or new to you) recently?
What did you think of it?

  1. You were actually in the Marketplace section of Downtown Disney - the original Pleasure Island is another section. I know this because, up until about 2010, we never ventured from the Marketplace, so we didn't even really realize that Pleasure Island and Westside existed. Now, we enjoy taking the time to walk the entire length of DtD. I'm excited to see what new changes come with the Disney Springs updates. :) We LOVE Wolfgang Puck Express. (Oh, and I don't really enjoy parades either, but the FoF one really is spectacular.)

    1. I know we were, we ended up walking over through the other sections too. I'm just excited to have something with so much "new to me" and Disney.

  2. Downtown Disney has been a big part of our family trips since we started going to WDW instead of Disneyland when we moved to Texas from California. We never went to the Pleasure Island part but did walk through it once after it closed to get to a shop at the westend that was MisMatch(which has now moved to the marketplace) to get socks for all of the girls. It was a long walk and the pleasure island part was dead. I wonder how the new Disney Springs will bring more life back to that part of Downtown Disney.

I was never a daytime parade person either. I did really like Share a Dream come True back in 99/2000 but then they just kept changing it a small amount and I haven't seen a daytime parade in forever except the Move It Shake it one and that's because mg kids love it and I would endure almost anything for them. I do love nighttime parades though. I miss my beloved SpectroMagic and Festival of Dreams at Epcot. This new parade however looks amazing and I've watched videos of it a million times. I can't wait until our trip next summer for the girls to see it!

I hope this comment sounds ok and comes out ok. It's hard to write on a phone and my kids have overtaken my laptop :-/ it might time to get a kids computer
